Thirteen Gold Awards and Counting: What Abdul Latif Jameel’s Toyota Record Says About the Business
For the 13th consecutive year, Abdul Latif Jameel Motors received the Gold Award in Toyota Motor Corporation’s Distributor Award Program, this time for its performance in 2023.
The award covers results across sales, aftersales and joint priority themes. Abdul Latif Jameel Motors has held the Gold designation every year since the streak began, making it one of the longer continuous runs among Toyota distributors globally.
Masaru Shimada, general manager of Toyota’s India and Middle East division, credited the distributor’s consistency. “Their remarkable performance in the past year is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and passion for excellence,” Shimada said.
Hassan Jameel, chairman of the board of managers of Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, framed the award not as a ceiling but as a prompt. “Winning the prestigious 2023 Distributor Award for the 13th year in a row is yet another milestone that reflects the team’s outstanding efforts and passion for understanding the guests’ needs while meeting and exceeding their expectations,” he said. “This achievement inspires us to push the boundaries.”
Abdul Latif Jameel Motors has operated as Toyota’s authorized distributor in Saudi Arabia since 1955. What began with a small consignment of Land Cruisers has grown into one of the largest independent Toyota distribution operations in the world. At its peak, the company sold close to half a million new vehicles annually across global markets. Jameel has also taken that platform as a launchpad for discussing the future of mobility at high-profile forums, including a congress in Riyadh where he outlined how traditional distributors can adapt to an era of autonomous and electric transport.
The company attributes its service consistency in part to kaizen principles embedded throughout its operations. Customer feedback feeds directly into service development, and the company’s stated goal is to resolve needs before guests articulate them.
Aftersales performance has been a recurring factor in the award results. Abdul Latif Jameel Motors maintains an extensive network of service centers across Saudi Arabia, and its training infrastructure dates back to facilities built in the 1980s.
Japan remains a point of reference. Abdul Latif Jameel operates the only Lexus dealership in Japan funded by foreign capital, a distinction granted by Toyota and described by the Jameel family as a mark of mutual trust built across generations. The family’s institutional partnerships extend to MIT, where the Abdul Latif Jameel clinic applies machine learning to health challenges.
