Retention Numbers Show Why Podcaster Greg Soros Limits AI

Client retention above 95 percent and referrals making up 40 percent of new business are not the kind of numbers most podcast production companies post. At Podcraft Media Lab, founder Greg Soros credits those figures to a deliberate refusal to let automation take over the creative side of the work.

“We use artificial intelligence to handle transcription, initial audio cleanup, and metadata organization, but the creative decisions remain firmly in human hands,” said Greg Soros, a podcaster whose team also relies on machine learning to spot strong ad placement opportunities and study audience engagement patterns. Editorial judgment, though, stays with people.

Numbers That Back Up the Approach

Production timelines at the company have fallen by about 35 percent since adopting targeted automation, a gain Greg Soros attributes to using AI only where it will not dull the finished product. Several shows produced under his supervision have gone on to earn industry recognition, evidence that trimming production time has not come at the cost of quality.

Why Clients Keep Coming Back

Soros, who trained at Berklee College of Music before moving through senior roles at established media companies, says the retention numbers reflect something clients can hear in the finished episodes. “AI is transformative for the mundane tasks that consume production time, but it can’t replicate the emotional intelligence required for compelling storytelling,” he said. Working from a converted garage studio on Austin’s East Side, the podcaster keeps a close watch on which tasks get automated and which stay with his team, arguing that fully automated shows tend to lose the qualities listeners respond to. “Technology should amplify human creativity, not replace it,” he said. “That’s how you build a sustainable business that serves both creators and audiences in an increasingly automated world.” For Greg Soros, the retention and referral figures are proof the balance works.
