Warren co-founded Energy Transfer in 1996 alongside Ray Davis with roughly 200 miles of natural gas pipeline in East Texas and a staff of about 20 people. Nearly three decades later, the company operates approximately 140,000 miles of pipeline, transports about 30 percent of the nation’s natural gas and petroleum, and posts annual revenue in the tens of billions.

His career spans more than 45 years in the energy sector, beginning at Lone Star Gas Company after graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in civil engineering. He later served in executive roles at Cornerstone Natural Gas before co-launching the company that would become an industry behemoth. Warren stepped down as CEO at the start of 2021, handing day-to-day management to co-CEOs Mackie McCrea and Tom Long, while continuing to shape the company’s direction as executive chairman.

Warren has consistently argued that fossil fuel infrastructure remains essential to the global economy, and his Hall of Fame interview reinforced that view.
