Jason Hope Predicts Huge Role for Social Media Going Forward

In the early 2000s, Americans and people around the world were discovering and getting hooked on a new kind of internet platform. Today we know it as social media. In the two decades since sites like MySpace, Friendster and Facebook launched, social media has become a fundamental part of our lives. Futurist and tech industry observer Jason Hope said it was the development of smartphones that truly launched the power of social media to its next level of power and all-but ubiquitous presence.

He also said social media has not finished evolving. Jason Hopes predicts social media will only get more pervasive and powerful through the rest of this decade. He admits that predicting what is “the next big thing” on the internet is always difficult. However, the central role of social media is here to stay.

A major underpinning of social media is how it dovetails naturally with business and a lot of ordinary people who want to use it to make money. The latter is a powerful motivator for business owners and entrepreneurial individuals alike. Today, Jason Hope assures, a housewife or house husband with a hobby can, in many respects, get on an even playing field with an established corporate business.

Jason Hope describes social media as a “great democratizer” because no one needs a major cash investment to leverage this resource to move toward their goals. Another key area for social media is the entertainment factor, he said. The latest research shows that the average person spends about two hours and 45 minutes per day on social media.

A chunk of that time is for pure entertainment for everybody, not just children. That helps business owners, too, because it guarantees that millions of eyeballs keep their focus on their screens. Facebook remains the “behemoth in the room,” Jason Hope said. While other sites like X (the former Twitter) and YouTube and major competitors, Facebook has been able to remain dominant in this space.
